Behavior Studio

Mouse trajectories and experimental behavior quantification

Convert experimental videos into trajectories, distance, speed and zone events. Link results to trials, parameters and source videos for review, recalculation and report export.

  • Experiments and trials in one place
  • Movement and zone measures together
  • Video review and result recalculation

RESEARCH APPLICATIONS

Turn movement trajectories into verifiable experimental measures

Analysis inputs Experimental videos, arena calibration and regions of interest

Open-field movement and spatial exploration

Use arena calibration and center/periphery regions to quantify paths, distance, speed and occupancy distribution.

Zone occupancy and entry/exit events

Define regions of interest, summarize occupancy and entry/exit events, and replay relevant video intervals.

Maze and multi-zone experiments

Organize trajectories and events by experimental region, retain trials and parameters, and recalculate measures after review.

CORE CAPABILITIES

Analyze, review, and organize results

Experiment and trial management

Keep protocols, trials, videos and parameters linked so results can be checked against their analysis conditions.

Two tracking approaches

Choose classical visual tracking or target detection followed by contour propagation according to lighting, background and mouse appearance.

Trajectories aligned to video time

Organize frame-level observations by original timestamps and flag tracking interruptions, missing observations and identity ambiguity.

Movement and zone quantification

Use arena calibration and region definitions to calculate distance, speed, movement state, occupancy and entry/exit events.

Manual review and recalculation

Check videos, trajectories and identities, correct affected intervals, and recalculate the relevant measures.

Research results and export

Export frame-level trajectories, event tables, figures and experimental reports for statistics and research records.

Software in action

Actual interfaces for parameter configuration, result filtering, and review; original screenshots retain their Chinese labels.

RESEARCH OUTPUTS

Results and research interpretation

Measured examples from Behavior Studio, preserving original figures and quality information.

REPORT EXAMPLES

Research reports for your records

Rendered from PDFs actually exported by the software, retaining original figures, labels, and quality notes.

ANALYSIS WORKFLOW

From data preparation to research outputs

  1. 01

    Create an experiment and trials

Link videos and trial information, then check duration, image content and analysis subjects.

  2. 02

Calibrate the arena and define zones

Enter physical arena dimensions, define regions of interest and choose a tracking configuration suited to the video.

  3. 03

    Run tracking and inspect quality

Review frame-level trajectories, subject identities and anomaly flags to locate intervals requiring verification.

  4. 04

    Review and calculate measures

Use the source video to correct affected intervals, then calculate or recalculate movement and zone measures.

  5. 05

    View and export research results

Inspect trajectory plots, heatmaps and event tables; export data and reports while retaining the parameter record.

DELIVERABLES

Your analysis outputs

  • Frame-level trajectories
  • Movement, zone and immobility measures
  • Behavioral event tables
  • Figures and experimental reports

BEFORE ANALYSIS

What to confirm before you start

  • Measures two-dimensional trajectories, movement states and zone events; it does not replace multi-view three-dimensional measurement.
  • Occlusions, reflections and identity ambiguity require video review. Missing observations do not mean a behavior did not occur.
  • Physical distance and speed require arena calibration. The trajectory example on this page uses pixel coordinates.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before you begin

Which experiments are suited to Behavior Studio?

Experiments focused on paths, movement, spatial occupancy and zone events. For fine-scale body-surface motion, explore Dense Tracking Studio.

Do distance and speed require arena calibration?

Yes. Calibrate against the physical arena dimensions in the video before calculating physical distance or speed. Uncalibrated pixel coordinates cannot be interpreted directly as centimeters or meters.

Must all results be reorganized after a tracking interruption or identity error?

Review and correct the affected interval, then recalculate the relevant measures. All records do not need to be reorganized; the recalculation scope depends on the task and the correction.
